Blogging since 2009, I'm a 1950s housewife to the bone and I love to share what I've learned with others. I'm a lifelong foodie, raised with Sunday dinners at my grandmother's and daily scratch cooking in my childhood kitchen. I'm a nerdy homeschooling mama of 3, and a wife of 17 years.

I drink tea when I knit and coffee when I do everything else.

February Homeschool Giveaway The Story of the World

We were out in California for three weeks, the plan was two weeks but that turned into three weeks and as fun as extended vacations are, and as much as I love and miss living in California, I am happy to be back home and back to routine. I’m also really excited to announce my giveaway for this month!

This month I am giving away a set of homeschooling books that my kids love and I think yours will too! They are from a popular series, The Story of the World and I’m giving away volumes 1 & 2! Volume 1 is Ancient Times and Volume 2 is The Middle Ages. I will post more about these workbooks and textbooks, but first here are the details for entering the giveaway.

Entering is easy! Just follow, like, share or comment on any of my social media posts (every action counts as an entry) and tag a friend to join as well. This giveaway is open until the end of the month, Tuesday Feb 28!

Find me on social media here:

Good luck! Here are some more images from the Story of the World books. I really love them because you can casually read the textbooks as bedtime stories and go over the workbooks during morning basket time or usual history time. This books are the history curriculum suggested in the classical education guide, The Well Trained Mind. Even if you are not using the classical education approach to your homeschooling, it is a wonderful curriculum.

Happy New Year – Let’s Have a Giveaway!

Happy 2017 everyone!

I hope your holiday season was full of love and fun. In the past, I have made and posted resolutions and then gone over them in December to see what I was able to stick to. I usually do pretty well, but I think that has more to do with knowing myself and choosing resolutions I know I will like doing! I haven’t really made or posted resolutions for a couple of years now. This year I wasn’t going to either and I kept saying, the only thing I really want to do this year is to blog more often and keep making videos. Then I had some ideas for blog posts and videos, and then I made notes about my self inflicted challenges for 2017 and before I knew it I had a list of things to do this year. So, goals and reminders to myself. In years past, I have done weekly check ins about my yearly goals. This year, I was planning a Friday recap so maybe I will include that in there.

1. Make a different candy (at least) every week.

2. Cook my way through Salt Lake City Chef’s Table by Becky and Josh Rosenthal.

3. Assist Daphne in cooking her way through Baking With Kids by Linda Collister.

4. Take the handmade pledge and include something handmade with birthday greetings.

5. Sit down for 4 crafternoons a week.

6. Participate in Craftster’s monthly challenges.

7. Assist Helena with her Sewing School.

8. Limit junk food.

9. Be active for at least 30 minutes a day

10. Work on my wardrobe.

I love how my first three resolutions are kitchen related and my next few are crafting related with a little cuteness at the end. Truthfully, I’m pretty good at doing my makeup, gluing on the lashes and getting on with my day. My wardrobe isn’t awful, I even did daily OOTD posts last summer when we spent a month in California buuuuut, it could use some updating and better mixing and matching. I think a lot of us who focus on our families and play around with flavors and foods in the kitchen can forget about putting together a cute outfit. I think of all my goals this year, this one will be the one that requires a change in mindset. I generally focus on my makeup and then literally put anything on!

So, in the spirit of encouraging others to step up their wardrobes as well, I’ve teamed up with my friend Blayne, she is a LuLaRoe consultant and is going to give you a free pair of leggings!

We are doing a little giveaway that is going to run for two weeks starting today (Jan 4) and ending on Jan 18, it is open internationally, so my Canadian/European readers, feel free to enter! All you have to do for a chance to win is to both join Blayne’s LuLaRoe FB group and follow me, like or comment on a post, and each action will get you an entry.

Window Shopping Wednesday (and Giveaway) at Little One Books

Kids, Reviews, Window Shopping

This is part nine of my Window Shopping Wednesday series, this time focused on a single store, Little One Books. I’m featuring this store because their selection is unlike any other in that all their books are handpicked by the couple that created it! They have over 700 books, music and videos and they have all been chosen based on content and readability. Each book even has a ‘why we chose this book’ write up explaining in great detail what made this book stand out.

Before I go any further, I want to mention that the book I was sent was packaged well and in perfect condition! I am mentioning it because all too often I’ll order something with a set of expectations because it’s from a well known company and when it arrives it’s falling apart. Very well done on that front, Little One Books!

The book I requested when I was given the option? Where the Wild Things Are, of course! I have loved this book since I was first read it as a child by my parents, who had read it to their Godchildren before I was even born! Timeless and fun!

They have also put together bundles of themed books, music and videos! From Quiet Time to Let’s Sing and Dance, they’ve got a nice selection and they are well matched up!

Want a $25 gift certificate to Little One Books? Here are all the ways you can enter this giveaway – just be sure to comment here and let me know what you did to enter!

5. Tweet that you’ve entered this giveaway! Mention me (@soverydomestic) and Little One Books (@littleonebooks). (1 entry)
