I made this for a dear friend who likes a little kick in his food and is always willing to test out my kitchen experiements! Happy birthday Andrew! I filled the middle with a batch of brownies because this year Andrew and Talea had to share a birthday party (the horror), and she prefers brownies to cake.
3/4 cup of butter
1 cup of chocolate chips
1 cup of packed light brown sugar
1 cup of granulated sugar
1 tablespoon of vanilla extract
4 large eggs
2 1/4 cups of flour
2 teaspoons of ground cinnamon
1 teaspoon of baking soda
1/2 teaspoon of salt
1/2-3/4 teaspoon of ground cayenne pepper
1 cup of whole milk
Preheat your oven to 350 and grease your cake pan. Then melt the chocolate chips with the butter in a saucepan.
Once you're all melted, take the pot off the stove and add in the sugars and vanilla.
In a smallish bowl, mix the flour, cinnamon, baking soda, salt and cayenne pepper.
Back to the saucepan now, add the eggs, one at a time. Now alternate between adding the flour mixture and the milk. Bake for 45 minutes or so.
Mine was done in about half an hour and had a little burnt layer on top.
No biggie. I cut off the burnt part, flipped it over for a perfectly flat top and cut a hole in the middle. Why?
