This is a fun look that I wore most of the time when we lived in the woods and we had errands at school or in town. Writing this from LA, it's hard to believe that I had to 'drive into town' to run errands. Amazing the difference a few months makes. Anyhoo...this was super simple to do! (read)
I'm a real sucker for black eyeshadow and pink lips and this video only made it worse. Any combo of blacks and greys on the eyes with any kind of light to almost berry lips is a winner for me. So smitten with how cute this is! This is a look I wear far too often - almost always with bright pink nails. (read)
In our very first apartment together, my husband and one of our roommates painted the walls purple and the baseboards and trim green. Most of my friends said it reminded them of a carnival ride. I have always loved the playfulness of mixing these two colors, though I know it doesn't always work (like say in pretty much any print) but they are cute together for a first apartment and for eye makeup. Being a teenager in the 90s meant that I was hopelessly obsessed with Hard Candy. Hopelessly. It wasn't widely available in Canada, so we had to either hunt for it, or wait for friends and family to come back from American shopping adventures. Seventeen magazine totally fueled my obsession. Truthfully Seventeen magazine still fuels a lot of my obsessions but now I can get pretty much whatever I want via the internet. Hooray for technology, making it easier for me to procure very specific sparkly eyeshadow - that gets all over everything, but I love it anyway! (read)
This palette is so fun, you can literally play around with all of the shades in the same color family and come of it looking cute. I used the 120 Color Palette 1st Edition. I used the three darkest purples on my lid, the next three lightest purples blended in the crease and the very lightest purple mixed with white on the brow bone. Love! (read)
I've been wanting to institute Super Cute Saturday around here for so long I was a little surprised I had only actually posted it once before! The HORROR!!
These pictures were taken last year and it's fair to say that my current makeup looks are inching closer to drag queen territory. This look is really sweet and simple though and it's a lot more subtle for women who don't routinely wear fake lashes to their kids school - you don't do that? What am I supposed to do? Take them off before heading over and put them back on again when I get home?! (read)
Oh, BH Cosmetics, how I love you so!! My delicious husband bought me a serious BH collection for my birthday in October and I could not possibly be happier with the eye shadow selection I have now. Like woah, a la Joey Lawrence. This face was done with just four colours from one of two trays in the 120 Color Palette 1st Edition! (read)
I have very exciting news!! Apothica now accepts PayPal! I don't know if this news is as life changing for you as it is for me, but holy moly am I excited about this! To celebrate my bubbling over enthusiasm, I'm marking the occasion by making a Window Shopping post for their shop. Apothica has some of the same brands as Sephora with a slew of others mixed in (which usually makes up for not having some of the other brands Sephora carries). Hooray for PayPal though! Here's my wish list, what's yours? (read).
When my love of making things from scratch collides with David Suzuki telling us our makeup is full of crazy chemicals, of course my reaction is to make my own makeup. (read).
In keeping with the spirit of the Low Bun with Volume tutorial, this look is fast and cute! It's hardly even a 'do, really. Remember the teeny tiny half pony, like this? This little pony is like that but has a wee twist on the sides to make it a little cuter. Maybe something to do real quick when you have to be at your kids' school and not look like Lorelei on Rory's first day at Chilton. Whoops, did I just admit to watching Gilmore Girls?! Anyhoo, just like the last tute, this will take all of 10 minutes tops, after the curling iron is hot! (read).
While I do my best to be pulled together with three little ones underfoot, some days it's a challenge to get my makeup and lashes on in the morning - not that I ever let that stop me! Once I've got my face on though it's super tempting to just throw my hair in a ponytail and be done with it. But I can't. I'm not about slacking - and I'm not about running late because of my hair either. Enter quick fixes like this one! It's out of the way so I can easily bake and cook without worrying that I'm going to get any hair in my kitchen, it's really cute and takes less than 5 minutes. All you need are 3 hair elastics and a few bobby pins. I used white cloth elastics for the photos so you can see them, use smaller ones that match your hair (read).
While putting together this Window Shopping list, I came across so many dresses I wish there was a use for in my life and so many dresses I could probably get away with but that I just don't have the fashion guts for. Instead of noting them here, I'm going to make a part two to this list, of dresses I can't bring myself to to even wish list but that I love, love love! My girl Sammie knows (and hilariously shares) my undying love of Mod Cloth dresses. She spends just as much time drooling over them as I do and she also believes in dressing for the occasion - whatever the occasion happens to be (read).
It wasn't all that long ago that my husband treated me to a very fun shopping adventure at Sephora where I stocked up on all the essentials and soon realized that these extra special items were worth the extra price tags and I became totally obsessed. This is a list of all the gear I use every morning, (though I don't use the same colours everyday). There are a few items I use every day that are not from Sephora that are honestly better than things found there! (read).
How much is there to say about lotion? More than I thought when I stumbled onto the 'luxe side', as my dear friend Lindsay puts it. There is so much more to it than I knew a year or so ago and I have no doubt there is even more to know that I have not been schooled on yet! Here, I blather on a little about my favourite lotions - basic body lotion, a pore minimizer, tinted moisturizer, basic moisturizer, and a bronzing lotion. Fun, fun, fun!! (read).
The Body Shop is widely known for it's plant based skin care, though as far as I have read it's not 100% natural. Huge pluses for me with this company are that they do not test on animals, and they are way more natural than most other mainstream skin care companies. Everything smells nice, but not overwhelming, and this company never fails to moisturize! So this Window Shopping focuses on body butters the like! The only trouble with all the natural ingredients that are tossed around, is it's hard to know what they actually do! (read).
