I am always looking for sewing practice, and as I've mentioned before and will mention again, I'm not amazing with a sewing machine. I mean, I earn the domestic in my title with my oven and my knitting needles, but yeah, sewing is something I'm still figuring out. So, I try to do it as much as possible and hopefully sometimes the things I practice with are wearable or usable! In this case, it is! (read).
This is one of those projects that's only hard in your head, once you actually get started on it you'll find it's no biggie and comes together really, really quickly.

My husband's grandmother has always been super nice to me, and has always been helpful when it came to teaching me something new that I really wanted to learn. This past Christmas, she came to my rescue when I brought a kit for a homemade guitar strap that I had bought from Jen Stephens on Etsy along with a bag of skully fabric I bought specifically for the project and a really muddled look on my face. These were part of the collection of things we made as end of school year thank yous to the teachers and staff at the wee ones' school. These were made for the librarians, who are a retired couple and so sweet with the kids. I have no doubt that between the two of them they have a great deal of bookmarks, but they are so often lost or in need of replacing I figured it was a safe gift. Plus after seeing these ones on How About Orange I had to make some myself! (read).
Turning a pair of old jeans into a jean skirt is both practical (hello comfy pairs of jeans with holes in the knees) and easy! I hadn't ever done it before because I wasn't sure I'd be very good at it since I'm still learning, but the only way to learn is to practice, right? So with two of the three Wee Ones at school, I attacked a cherished pair of jeans with seriously ripped cuffs and a few sad holes in the knees. (read).
