I've always said that my blog and I are equally traditional and nerdy - it's sort of embarassing how true that really is.
The traditional part is rooted in my close knit family, even though I'm living about 2600 miles away from them at the moment, and continues with getting married at 19 and still being married to my absolutely amazing husband 14 years later. Then of course there are the three little ones - the three little ones that we are homeschooling! It's already paying off in what they are learning this way!
The nerdy bit was probably always there, in that I was big on both books and video games growing up, but it wasn't until my husband introduced me to computers when I was entering university that I was struck by this instant burning desire to know everything I possibly could about web design. So while I suppose I've always been a little nerdy, marrying a self-taught programmer pushed my nerdyness to that unexpected level.
I grew up in a heavily domestic family, which of course is where the fiercely domestic part comes from! From baking and cake decorating to loads of Greek cooking and Canadian staples, the kitchen at my parent's house (and my grandparent's house next door) was always full of life and endless inspiration. The love of cooking and baking and just being in the kitchen in general has always been a part of my life - I've been baking since I was old enough to push a chair up to the kitchen counter and that's a tradition I've continued with my own children as well.
While I've been tearing it up in the kitchen for years, making both old school favorites like full out traditional Thanksgiving dinner and totally ridic creations like baking 3 pies into 3 cakes (that was actually really amazing), a few things are very different now than they were when I started out with this whole wifing and mothering thing 12 years ago. We have moved around Ontario a bunch (mostly between Toronto and Sudbury) before we finally bought a beautiful house we all love in the woods of central Ontario - and less than a year later we moved here, to a cute place in Los Angeles!
No matter where we live or what we're doing, I am always, always, always down to be that 50s housewife - tending house, baking up a storm, chasing after the wee ones - and looking as adorable as possible while doing it!
